I've achieved many milestones since I've made the switch from weight loss to HAES, but my desired milestones have always been listed off as kilo loss intervals.
There were some non-weight loss related goals in there, though a lot of them are out of date now.
So, here we are. My new set of milestones, and rewards for each one.
I've grouped them into three sections - the first two being medium, and long term.
The first table of goals are ones I hope to achieve in the medium term - getting back to pre-carcrash Body Pump weights, getting back the run distance and times, all that stuff.
| Return to previous Body Pump Weights | Item of clothing from Nike Platinum |
| Return to 5km Run Distance | Item of clothing from Nike Platinum |
| Do a training swim in the Ocean | Place an order for a t-shirt from Cafepress |
| Beat my 19:20mins 3km Run Time | Place an order for a t-shirt from Threadless |
| Run a sub 15min 3km Run | Place an order for a t-shirt from Cafepress |
| Beat my 36:43min 5km Run Time | Place an order for a t-shirt from Threadless |
| Run a sub 30min 5km Run | Item of clothing from Nike Platinum |
Can you tell I like t-shirts? Just a bit? One thing that will always please me is gift certificates to Threadless and Cafepress. I hearts those places something awful. That and shower gel from The Body Shop - since I use that by the bucketload with all of the gymness.
Some of these may intersect with the completion of certain exercise events - for example, beating my 19:20 3km Run Time may be done during an aquathlon run, and running a sub 30min time may be done in a Run Auckland race.
These next lot of goals are much more long term.
| Run 7.5km | Pair of new Jam shoes from Nike Platinum |
| Run 10km | New exercise-related Gadget (eg: Garmin or Nike Plus) |
| Double Body Pump weights | Get a sports massage |
| Run 15km | New item of clothing from Max, Staxs or Portmans |
| Do an entire Body Step class using High Impact options | Place an order for a t-shirt from Threadless |
| Do an entire Body Attack class using High Impact options | Place an order for a t-shirt from Threadless |
| Learn to ride a bike | Place an order for a t-shirt from Cafepress |
Finally, my last lot of rewards, and these ones are probably the most important. The short term rewards.
I dno't have to achieve anything to receive any of these goals. If I'm finding something particularly difficult - say a run on one day feels much harder than others -, or even if I'm having a bad day. These are my rewards to myself, either which I can claim, or can use as motivation as mentioned in my last post.
- Single serve tart from CityCake (Lemon Meringue, Raspberry Almond, Chocolate Mousse etc)
- Slice of Pecan Pie from Pandoro
- Bunch of Flowers
- Mochaccino from one of my favourite cafes (Novanta near work, Massimo near home)
- Fragrant Candle
| 16th November '08 | Virtual Harbour Crossing | 2.8km Swim |
| 11th January '09 | MoreFM Triwoman - Auckland Aquathlon | 300m Swim, 3km Run |
| 24th January | Capital Classic | 750m Swim |
| 22nd February | MoreFM Triwoman - Pt Chev Aquathlon | 300m Swim, 3km Run |
| 15th March | Round The Bays | 8km Walk |
| 29th March | Run Auckland - Race 1, Remuera | 5km Run |
| 19th April | King Of The Bays | 750m Swim |
| 21st June | Run Auckland - Race 5, Western Springs | 10km Run |
I've entered in the Aquathlons and the Swims. I hope to do Round The Bays through the gym again, so I'll wait till the gym starts taking entries and enter then. And I can delay entering the Run Auckland races for a while.
It'll be interesting to see how I do with the Aquathlons. When I asked Worker Jay if she wanted to do the triathlon again with me this year, she declined - and then handed in her resignation. No, the two incidents are not related. Or so I tell myself. Just my luck that this year MoreFM added a new event to the triathlon series - something that didn't involve a bike. YAY! Even better, they added a new course - Pt Chevalier - which is a stones throw away from my house, which I am damn well pleased about. Though I was half tempted to throw in the Wellington Aquathlon on the 25th of January, telling myself, "Well, I'm down there for the Capital Classic anyway, might as well do an Aquathlon the next day!". Sense got the better of me.
Until then, I have some training to do, and more training gear to buy. Most imperative is a wetsuit, at least $250. GAH. Especially since I need one with a good amount of give in the stomach area; must containth my flabness, wayhey!
Let 2009 be the year of great runnage, swimmage, and expenditurage!

whoa! that's a big calendar! Howcome you aren't running the Auckland marathon/half/quarter marathon? Might see you at round the bays.
PS: Adidas too have some nice gear.
Yeah, after the back injury earlier this year, running caused a bit of pain, so I haven't been able to get up to a Quarter marathon distance this year. I might aim to do the 2009 Quarter marathon, though we'll see how I go :-)
Great goals and rewards! I've no doubt you will meet them all and fall backward into a bouncy pile of fluffy, wonderful new tee shirts!
That looks like a great plan! I'm with Izzy - do the quarter!
Just a friendly word about Run Auckland Race 1 - it's about 5.4 km!
And I like the idea of rewarding yourself when you reach a goal.
Since you like T-shirts so much, you won't mind at all me putting in a plug for my friend's fledgling fashion design business.

is the URL. You will not see cuter T-shirts anywhere. Really.
Sorry for plugging stuff on your blog. I promise I'll never do it again.
cmae - Oh man, I'm thinking of myself all Scrooge McDuck style with the pile of t-shirts!
Andrew - Yep, I saw that, and the Western Springs course is 4.95/9.91km?! WHAT!? I'm hoping to be able to run 6km by that point, so as long as I don't get injured again, I should be okay.
Gabrielle - It's for your friend, I don't mind. And Chubby Turtle is too gorgeous!
Wow, Marshmallow, that is some schedule. That is so awesome! Someeday I will do another tri....it is a great feeling to complete an event. You're good inspiration for me to get back to excercising more.
I love your goals, they look like a good mix of achieveable and challenging.
Gees I hope you are saving your pennies because I know you'll be buying yourself a ton of rewards when you achieve all those goals.
I can't wait to hear all about it!
angelfish24 - I reckon you'd be great doing another tri! :-D I know you can do it, and that you'd be awesome!
Tully - Hahahah, yeah that's one worrying thing, as I wrote the list up, I thought, "Heck... I better not achieve all this at once... this could be quite expensive!" ;-)
